Johann Georg Schütz

1755 - 1813 (Frankfurt am Main)

Johann Georg Schütz, the “Römer-Schütz”, received his first training from his father Christian Georg Schütz the Elder, the progenitor of the well-known family of artists. He then studied history painting at the Düsseldorf Academy from 1775-79. From 1784 to 1790 he stayed in Rome, where he lived with other artists, such as Johann Heinrich Wilhelm Tischbein, in the house of the Collina family. In October 1786, Johann Wolfgang von Goethe also joined his compatriots in the Collina house under a pseudonym. (Source: neumeister.com)
