⟵Bloemaert, studied in Utrecht and Paris and was admitted as a citizen of Amsterdam in 1597. From 1611 he was active in Utrecht, where he seems to have remained settled until his death. Bloemaert exerted a great influence on Dutch painting. He mediated, so to speak, between it and the Flemish school, cultivating history, portraiture, genre and landscape. The numerous engravings and woodcuts in chiaroscuro made after him give a rich picture of his artistic endeavors. Works by him are mainly in theFine Arts Museum of San Francisco, but also in the galleries of Berlin and the Louvre in Paris (source: Wikipedia).
